For trucks, a maximum speed of 80 km/h outside residential areas applies in Austria. Transport from Austria directly to an EU member state other than the Netherlands and from another member state directly to Austria is in principle permitted. The condition is that the other country also allows third country transport.

 

Freight traffic and environment in Austria

In the Steiermark district, a permanent driving ban applies to freight transport heavier than 7.5 tonnes and with a EURO standard lower than 4. An environmental zone has been established in the Vienna region. It is mandatory to drive with an environmental sticker in the Vienna district. Vehicles must have at least Euro class II. A permanent driving ban applies to all lorries in Euro classes 0, I and II.

 

'Rollende Landstrassen'

The Rollende Landstraße is a special train on which trucks and trailers are placed, "accompanied combined transport".  There are Rollende Landstraßen between Austria and Germany, Austria and Hungary, Austria and Italy, Austria and Slovenia, and Austria and Romania.
